Survivor South Pacific Reimagined

Description

There are some seasons of Survivor that are just.... BAD (Redemption Island and Caramoan) where everything just falls apart and leaves it a jumbled mess. However there are other seasons that have massive Potential to be Really good, but the editing just gets in the way and ruins what could be a very good story. One of the better examples of this is South Pacific.

So what I decided to do for a little experiment is to re-Edgic the season (Because no way in hell am I writing an entire fic on this), keeping the same events and everything that happened, but attempt to tell a better story.

To limit myself, I kept the sum visibility numbers from the real show so I wouldn't get too carried away with numbers.

What I did decide to do differently with the players as opposed to the real show.
Semhar: Given she's the first boot, she's oddly the one I think is done the best and doesn't need to be touched at all.
Papa Bear: From what we know on the season he had no real major impact on the story, so I didn't see the need to give him the CPP4 treatment he got in the original, and his antics in his departure episode would make perfect OTTP moments
Stacey: With Stacey you have a very entertaining and dynamic figure, so it would make sense to highlight her more in her time out there. Tie her closer with Christine and show their bond some.
Elyse: Elyse seems like a sweet girl. I had her win in my SoPa redo, but here. She needs a negative edit, and a build up to make her blindside worth it and deliver. She can't be the Irrel Girl Ozzy ha that got booted.
Mikayla: Yes, we all know she's a whore outside the show, but I think with her the best thing to do is continue her positive edit and make her a bit of an underdog instead of just Brandons victim. In addition when Hard working Mikayla gets eliminated, it would be a good way to paint the eventual F3 losers negatively.
Christine: She's tricky due to RI, but they needed to play up her storyline a bit more. Show us more of her at RI, and highlight the fact that she has pulled an amazing feat with the duel streak. She is on Redemption Island. She starts with an N edit, and ends as a threat to be feared there, needed OZZY to take her out. Thats like the perfect setup for a redemption Edit.
Jim: Jim is a strategy bot. So he needs to be focused some, but I toned down his visibility in a number of episodes because it just wasn't needed. Also if they are to play up the "Savaii is bullying Cochran" storyline, they need to have him and the others on his tribe more negative to justify the flip instead of.....
Keith: Randomly having Keith going UTRN1 in his boot episode, give the Savaii tribe more negativity as a whole, and even if it would be uncomfortable for those editing it due to outside circumstances. Keith and Whitney's relationship should have been more explored. Needed a bigger edit for sure, since his departure was key in the entire season, and building him up would work better than "Random Irrel guy leaving"
Dawn: Not much needed to be changed with her except some minor eliminations of her massive visibility spikes.
Whitney: It should be obvious now after everything that we saw. But Whitney is/was a Bith in Sopa, and I will never understand why they didn't show this. They needed to make her a villain since she had ALOT of the qualities, and if they needed to have Cochran seem more like a victim, show her. And the subplot of her and the marriage at home would really help show the villainy
Cochran: Criticisms aside, he needs a big edit, he's a big figure in the season, but he doesn't need AS big of an edit, there are some episodes where he doesn't play a big role and he doesn't need a CP/MOR4 in those episodes. Asides from that he also needs his victim status built up in prior episodes to highlight the negativity of his tribe and explain his flip.
Edna: Very similar to Dawn. Just stopping the random Visibility spikes, and since she varies in story so much, it was hard to get a long story with her. She's more of just a character with a bunch of mini events that last 2-3 episodes.
Brandon: Tone him down a little bit at the start, but other than that I think the show did good with him after the Mikayla arc.
Rick: I could not come up with anything special for him. Just.... not making him so UTR1 was all I could really do.
Ozzy: Ozzy is a moron this season, he makes alot of dumb decisions and he is never in the drivers seat, with the exception of 2 incidents which ended poorly, so why did he need a dominator edit? Give him the lovable doofus/idiot edit. Add in some negativity early on since... he had a very bumpy road there. But All in all, Ozzy did not deserve that big of an edit, and I may have been too generous with his numbers once he got to RI
Albert: Albert is a Douchebag, they need to play that up, along with his constant overstrategizing, his relationship with Sophie, and Rick, and down the line how he is like the slimy used cars salesman.
Coach: Tone down the edit a tiny bit, but its still needed to highlight alot of his actions being the figurehead of the alliance, and doing several scumbaggy moves, and point out his hypocrisy more, since it is something that becomes instrumental in his loss at the end.
Sophie: Winners nowadays have this ugly MOR/CP Toneless bore edit to make them unobjectionable to the viewers much like TAR has, and that never was more apparent than this season. Sophie can be a bitch, we saw it, and she can be very good at it, but they should play that up more. Not to make her unlikable, but to just show that side of her instead of a MOR2 girl that doesn't say much of anything, She could be shown shutting down Alberts plans, called rude by others, and that buildup of negativity could be the turning point in the Rick Tribal when that comes crashing down on her, allowing her to finish strong.

I do have a few more seasons in mind to do this with, but not sure if/when they'll be up.

So I was thinking about this today and I always knew there was something you and the editors missed about Rick, something to give him airtime, a story, just I wasn't sure myself what that was, my gut told me there was something. Afterall, someone with the title "Cowboy Rick" must have potential. Then in the shower today it hit me! Coach was one of, if not the main character of the season, involved in many plots, which me remember a whole plot that was sadly ignored. Before appearing on South Pacific, Rick hated Coach, as many other fans did (not all of course). By the end of his journey, Rick grew to like respect Coach, a complete 180 from before the season, which despite feeling betrayed by him, voted for him to be the sole survivor. As great of character development that would be, it goes deeper:
"Cowboy" Rick would of made a great foil to "Dragon Slayer" Coach. Coach is a cultured, imaginative, renaissance man of leadership who tells unrealistic stories with negative reception. Rick is a no-nonsense, likable, hard working, loyal follower who apparently told great stories the other castaways enjoyed (would of rather seen that than Cochran's embarrassing sympathy stories). So seeing Rick grow to respect Coach would of made a great storyline, especially considering Coach betraying Rick in favor of Sophie, and despite this Rick vote for Coach to win.
Also I would of made him more positive, showing his likeable personality and hard work. A positive edit for Rick would of explained the other reason they got rid of him besides needing a better chance to beat Ozzy: his likability. Since the FTC became a "lesser of three evils", showing his positive side would of explained his boot better and make Coach look bad for betraying him (same for Brandon but for making Albert look bad).
So a UTRP/MORP (with a sprinkle of OTTP) is was I would of made him if I was the editors. Not a big character, but giving him a season long sub-plot with substance.
And I read on Tvtropes that Rick's unaired confessionals showed he knew more about what was going on at camp than you would expect.
